I also recommend tutorials and materials from sites like

Personally, I studied education in college to become a teacher. I taught myself graphic design online with tutorials and teaching vids from

Practice replicating other people's work at first, so make yourself familiar with all the tools. Once you do that, you can let your creativity flow and design original works.

Start with small assignments for friends and family and let them spread the word. Build up a net work. Set up a nice portfolio so you can refer people to it and they can get a sense of your style and skills.

start with some volunteering/ small assignments from friends, local non profit organisation, & use social media to promote ur portfolio.
in parallel you can offer your services in freelancer-like website.

Also get a portfolio site with a few examples, easier getting jobs if people have an idea of what you are capable of.

A close friend of mine from Philly started a YouTube channel you may find useful because it specializes in freeware apps to accomplish graphic design (Inkscape, GIMP, Blender, etc.) Go to YouTube and look up Logos By Nick. I've done 5 projects with him over about 6 years and he's awesome and readily shares his knowledge. It also helps if you know what kind of logo's you want to make, that way you can solicit specific assistance. I've made a lot of logo's, there's quite a few types, so having some idea what you want to make will be a big step in the right direction and Nick uses industry standard terms and philosophies which may help you narrow down what kind(s) of logo's you want to do.

One thing to keep in mind....I've only actually used maybe 15% of the logo's I've made, most don't make the cut for one reason or another, but every KIND of logo you create can be viewed as a tool in your tool belt. So unused logo's aren't really a waste of time, but that happens more times than not as a client starts to narrow down their own idea of what they want their logo to look like. And often times logo's need to readily translate into branding, not just a static site logo, this means you need to learn several suites of applications to make what your client(s) require.

First things first. Depends what you want to do. Corel Draw is a vector program. Adobe Photoshop is a photo editing program so bitmap. it's true that Photoshop knows how to work with vector graphics but is not a vector program.
The question should be as follows: Corel Draw or Adobe Illustrator.
