Thoughts on Half-Life Alyx being VR exclusive?

One of the biggest titles coming next year is Half-Life Alyx. Lots of people around the world have really enjoyed the Half-Life saga since its first game came out 21 years ago. 

Now the recent annonucement of Half-Life Alyx has raised great expectations, but there's something holding the hype back: it will be exclusive to VR. But VR isn't a big thing right now-at least in gaming- and it's quite expensive.

Do you think that being exclusive to VR computer-based headsets will be the downfall of Half-Life: Alyx, or is the game going to revolutionize the gaming industry, making VR gaming the norm?

yes, also I remember reading someone from the developer team and he actually said that their main motive for the new game was to make something centered on VR. He even said that playing the game on other platforms would be counterintuitive so that's why they made it exclusive to VR. 
But maybe someone else manages to make it compatible.

no matter how much virtual reality the game calls for, it's sure that it will also be compatible with the traditional way, because if not, sales drop a lot
